BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Two people are dead after shots were fired in two locations in Bellingham Friday morning.

Mark Young with the Bellingham Police Department said 55-year-old Daniel Salas shot 39-year-old Tawnia Costan multiple times at a home in the 2400 of “J” Street in the 9 a.m. hour.

Young said the two had been involved in a relationship.

Salas took off on foot. Costan died at Saint Joseph Hospital.

Another 9-1-1 call came in from the 2800 block of Moore Street where Salas lives.

When police arrived, Salas took off running.

One officer followed him on a motorcycle and another chased him on foot.

Neighbor Nicole Forslof said she then heard multiple gunshots.

“I head two or three shots going down the side of the road,” Forslof said.

Shots were fired and Salas ended up dead, according to Young.

However it’s unclear if he killed himself or if he was struck with a bullet from the officer’s gun.
