WWU Student May Have Tuberculosis

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Tests are underway to determine whether a Western Washington University student has tuberculosis.

The student is reportedly in voluntary quarantine until the results are known.

Tuberculosis is a contagious bacterial infection of the lungs.

Brief or casual contact with an infected person does not spread the disease.

However, health officials are investigating whether other individuals were exposed through close contact with the student.

Those individuals may be asked to undergo testing for the disease.
