WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. -- As Whatcom County and Lummi Nation negotiators continue to hammer out a long term deal for Lummi Island Ferry Service, the county council is being asked to sign off on an interim lease tonight.
The county and the tribe are still working on a 25 year deal with an option for an additional 25 years.
In the meantime, the two sides have agreed to continue the current service.
If the council approves the lease at tonight’s 7:00pm meeting; starting Monday, the county will pay the tribe just under $17,000 a month to use Gooseberry Point.
